We recently fitted Shutterway units that were combined with a security shutters installation at an interesting project: a cottage renovation on a farm in the Southern Peninsula of Cape Town.
Renovation Of An Old Labourers Cottage
Set deep in the vineyards, this old labourers cottage is completely off the grid and makes use of solar power. Original stonework makes up the facade on most of the exterior, and old railway sleepers
have been used as lintels. Areas of accented original exposed brickwork in the interior combine with fine finishes, complementing the original rustic character of the cottage with more modern elements.
Wooden flooring has been used in the bedroom areas, with concrete screeds in the living areas, bathrooms and kitchen.
Sentimental & Tasteful Finishes
The owner decided to incorporate sentimental aspects and reclaimed elements in the renovation. One example is the support beam in the living room. The beam is made of timber from a tree that the owner’s grandfather planted on the property.
